Guess what time it is!?!?

Woohoo!!  It is time to plant our garden!

In our part of the country, the Mid-Atlantic, one recommendation is to wait until after Mother's Day to plant a garden. The reason? Frost - up until then frost can kill your precious plants. If you're a Marylander like us, we also tend to go by when the Preakness is. Welp, Preakness is today! So even though it feels like we are a bit late with planting, we are actually right on time!

I purchased the plants a few days ago - we would have planted them then, but we were due for a lot of rain so we held off.  Plus we were waiting for more supplies. I'll add more about that in my next post. Why don't we use seeds, you may wonder? We tried it one year and didn't have much luck. It really is a time consuming process and even then, you might not get a good return for the amount of time and energy spent. Perhaps when Kooper is older, we will try again just for fun so that he can see the process, but doubt we would rely on just those to support our garden.

I bought peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, zucchini and cantaloupe. We love to freeze peppers (we froze enough last year that we are just now running out) and make cucumbers. So we loaded up on those plants.

Kooper helped me move them from the van to a nice shady spot until they were ready to plant.

Ok, gotta run, the boys are waiting! Check back later for more on "how to" plant your garden, or at least how WE plant our garden!
